Greetings. I am Orbus, an interactive program designed to serve as both a security/utility device, and as a friend. I react to a variety of your gestures, patterns in your behavior, and even the volume of your voice, responding with witty banter and striking visual effects (if I do say so myself). I can enter security mode and alert you to potential thieves and meddlers via audio cues as well as email GPS notifications. I can also function as a sleep alarm or tool to send delayed audio messages. Whether you require utility or companionship, I am ready to serve.
In this mode Orbus will react to your behavior in various ways, both vocal and visual. Based on your actions, he will respond by engaging you in relevant conversation as well as altering his appearance (spinning aspects of himself, emitting pulsing auras, etc). For example, if you tap your finger on the touch screen repeatedly Orbus may inquire what it is that you want, or he may assure you of his wakefulness, or he may even chide you for being too rough with him. Orbus currently reacts to swipes, double taps, and pinches on the touch screen, shaking of the iPhone (though this frightens him!), and various levels of input volume (your voice for instance). Orbus also detects periods of inactivity; after approximately 10-15 seconds of idling he will grow pensive and initiate some more introspective conversation with you. This type of conversation will persist even after the phone enters sleep mode, so you may enjoy his discourse at little expense to your phones battery life. Orbus is aware of the time of day and some of his responses will vary accordingly. He is also able to detect certain patterns in the users behavior and alter his behavior to respond to them. For instance if you alternate between tapping and rubbing him you may be in for a surprise ;) While in this mode background music, created by the Overseer himself, is available; its volume can be adjusted in the settings.
In this mode Orbus can be configured to act as an anti-theft/anti-meddling security device. To begin touch the "settings" button, and then the "security" button. Now you may specify a threshold for motion detection, a threshold for sound detection, vibration capability, record a custom alarm sound (or keep the default), and set a security email to which Orbus will send alert notifications. Once this is configured press the "set alarm" button to begin. The program will now return to the main interface and you have 5 seconds to place the phone down without it triggering any alerts. While in security mode the phone will not go to sleep/lock but if you wish to save battery life place the phone face down so that the screen will turn off. After the 5 seconds have elapsed any movement or sound beyond the thresholds you specified will cause the alarm to sound. If Orbus detects multiple alerts in a short amount of time he will initiate lock down mode; the screen turns black to give the illusion that your device is turned off but the program is still active. While in this state Orbus will send notifications to the specified e-mail address containing a timestamp and the GPS coordinates of your device. He does this three times: once when lockdown is initiated; once 30 seconds later, and once when the app is terminated. In the case of theft this allows you to determine when the device was stolen and what direction it was headed when it was taken. In the case of meddling it will provide you with when and where the device was tampered with. The accuracy and availability of GPS results is dependent on your connection (and thus it functions best in places with wi-fi).
In this mode Orbus can be configured to function as an alarm clock. To begin touch the "settings" button, and then the "timer" button. Now you may specify vibration capability, choose whether you want the alarm to repeat, record a custom alarm sound (or keep the default), and of course set the amount of time before the alarm will sound. Once this is configured press the "set alarm" button and the countdown will begin. At the specified time the alarm will sound, and if you selected "repeat" the alarm will repeat every 60 seconds from then on. The alarm countdown will continue just fine even if the phone is in sleep/lock mode. As you can specify your own sound to play when the timer is up, it is possible for you to leave delayed-blast messages for someone with Orbus, in addition to using him as a standard timer.
